Original Milage -unknown

46 large photographs below.

This is a very nice running unfinished project 1953 AJS 18CS 500cc competition scrambler motorcycle with correct matching numbers for the frame and engine, and the gearbox, transmission has number GE4 J52, This project comes with everything seen in the pictures below, as you can see from the pictures below this beautiful and rare AJS 18CS that is an unfinished project but is a rebuilt a running bike, engine gearbox and forks I was told were rebuilt and certainly look like they have been but think its been a good few years ago now - I purchased 3 unfinished projects from the same guy this is the last of them - I have seen this motorcycle running when I purchased it, I started it with a remote gas supply and it ran well, has Lucas racing magneto and nice correct Lucas headlamp, alloy barrel and all the parts seen in the pictures - has correct wheels but these need lacing and truing when done you will have four wheels - rear on it now is later AMC wheel the unfinished wheels are the correct ones, hubs have been powder coated and rims nicely chromed, has loose front and rear alloy fenders, gas tank as seen is really well done and beautifully restored at a cost of $600 to paint, and sealed with Caswell in 2008, one very small scuff to tank from shelve wear very hard to see, missing some items to finish it - speedo, generator - although many comp models did not run one - wiring but will run with out it, do have the battery carrier as seen,  has tatty Lycett seat and I also have the springs but they are not pictured - better muffler needed or the re-chroming of the one supplied. complete clutch and primary is there, look at all the 46 pictures please, and note that their is damage to one of the rear gas tank lugs on the frame shown below in detail. This bike was purchase by the guy I got it from in 2010 for $5000 from Buzz Walneck, ad is shown below along with how bike looked at time of purchase in 2010 - it has been pushed around since then and so has some nicks and chips to frame and fork paint, it has a clear and current California Title.  These competition AMC AJS 18CS and Matchless G80CS models are getting very scarce only a couple of hundred were built each year and nearly all went to Cooper Motors on the west coast of the USA and most were hammered and modified, it rare to find such a nice straight matching engine and frame like this. it is being sold as a nice near complete unfinished restoration core project being sold with no reserve. This is a nice fun project for the Matchless or AJS fans not to much to do. Any questions email or call 213 321 4647 reasonable hours only please (west coast time ). I am listing this bike for 10 days one time only if it does not sell or I do not get a good offer I will strip and part it out. Loose parts will need to to mailed and buyer is responsible for this shipping as well as shipping the bike - I will bolt on what I can.

Anyone is more than welcome and encouraged to come and see it before bidding. Shipping and crating is the responsibility of the buyer but I will assist in any way I can. It can be delivered locally for my cost and time. The buyer must pay $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hours and the balance by cash or cashiers check within 7 days of auction end. The bike will not be released until all funds have cleared. I also reserve the right to end the auction early or cancel any bids from 0 feedback bidders unless they email me before they bid. This motorcycle is being sold as is with no warranty promised or implied. Please only buy if you are serious and intend to buy. Thanks for looking.
