:“Beautiful bike and stock except for some chrome bling. Engine has been gone through. Lotsa new OEM parts and it??s very clean. Ready to ride! Keep in mind this bike is 35 years old or so. An antique, so it??s going to have wear commensurate with its age. This is by no means a restored bike nor is it show quality. It??s a very pretty, nice looking, ride!”

Hi fellow eBay’ers, my name is Steve and I’ve been an active motorcycle enthusiast since the late 60’s. My first used bike was 1962 BSA A-10 650cc. My first new bike was a1976 Harley Davidson Sportster XLH and still remember the name of the paint, "Champagne”. I’ve been working on Sportsters ever since, and have rebuilt more of them than can remember.
Now, In my retirement, I’ve been collecting those Ironhead’s whose years appealed to me for various significant reasons. currently have four, 70 Stroker, 74, 78 (with Shovelhead top end), and an 82. The plan was to spend my retirement fixing them up mechanically and to some extent, cosmetically. If restored them to “trailer queen” or museum quality, I’d never ride them. However, the mechanicals had to be near perfect or better and the bike had to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but not necessarily perfect by any means. Just nice looking ride will do!
Unfortunately, due to my back, which is finally falling apart need more surgery and at 65 think my riding days are about over.
So, with sadness, will be selling several of the old “Ironhead’s have. I’ll probably list my bikes just once on eBay and if any remain unsold I’ll not relist and just throw cover on them. After the auction ends won’t entertain any offers outside of eBay. Hmmm, maybe I'll just keep it uncovered and just continue to look at it from the couch in my workshop. Ya gotta love the shiny deep blue metallic color (last pic).

This one up for bid is an original 1982 XLH Sportster. It is matching numbers bike (including belly numbers) with clear transferable Vermont registration in my name. This is very solid, very clean, motorcycle. Everything works just great and is ready to ride into the sunset! This bike needs nothing except for the new owner to carefully finish breaking it in according to Harley Davidson recommendations!!! should also mention that after the cases were soda blasted examined every millimeter of both case halves. Not repair had been done, not even helicoil! These cases are undamaged and in excellent condition!!
Just note that Vermont does NOT issue titles for bikes this old. The registration is transferable to new owner. New York does this, and it’s like California “pink slip”.  Any state should accept this. Just to be sure, check with your local DMV before bidding not after.
New parts include:

 2)  New Avon AM20 Roadrunner Front tire (tube and rim strip) 3)  New Dunlop rear tire (tube and rim strip) 4)  New Oil filter, fresh oil and oil lines 5)  New OEM front brake line “T” (junction)
 6)  NEW Champion Copper Plus spark plugs 7)  NEW NOS OEM instrument cluster and mounting bracket with Tachometer &
      Speedometer  8)  New NOS OEM seat which is just gorgeous  9)  New OEM Sissy Bar, Backrest and Sissy Bar side Plates10) New OEM Ignition module 11) New Voltage regulator12) New Battery Tender Whip13) New ATC Type main fuse14) New rear chain, transmission sprocket and rear drive sprocket
15) New Air filter element 16) New Full length Custom Chrome heat shields17) New Front brake pads, Pistons, seals, upper brake line and caliper stickers18) All cables replaced with quality Barnett cables       This Includes; speedometer, and clutch, throttle cables replaced last year
19) New Foot shift rubber20) New (last year) headlight bulb21) NEW but not perfect paint (I LOVE THE DEEP BLUE COLOR)22) New upper and lower steering head bearings and races23) NOS OEM “points” cover24) I’m sure I’ve forgotten other new items, ah yes, the swingarm bearings, think also replaced all the             footpeg rubbers but can’t be sure. 25) just realized the battery cover and top as well as the Ignition module cover are new.
REBUILT ITEMS:
 1) Engine has been gone thru and sports:
      A) New hole crankshaft pin with new rollers, new OEM stock rods and bushings      B) New main bearings and races left and right      C) Rebuilt oil pump      D) New +10 Pistons, rings, wrist pins and keepers      F) Four new camshaft roller bearings      G) New oil seals thruout      H) New gaskets thruout       I)  New clutch fiber plates, new Barnett outer drive plate      J)  New brass thrust washers installed in flywheels      K) New transmission main rollers      L)  New needle bearing, countershaft, closed end

 2) Carburetor Rebuilt

 3) Front brakes Rebuilt
     Includes; new upper hydraulic line, new caliper piston and seals, master  
                    cylinder rebuilt as well. When the engine is cold, give it or twists of the throttle, and choke 1/2 inch out, it starts immediately without hesitation. It rides very well, seems to have allot of power and shifts great.

Rear brake pads have allot of meat left. Bike sports an OEM side mount OIL COOLER.
I also have box of new & used parts that goes with the bike. know the box contains NOS OEM armature, new rear brake pads and new rear brake rebuild kit. I’ll update this ad with its other contents as my back permits.
Bike comes with one ignition key and Original documentation 

THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW (I’m trying my best to be honest and describing the bike as best can):

BIKE IS BEING SOLD “AS IS, WHERE IS”. There is NO warranty/guarantee, implied,assumed, or imagined.
The 1982 model year was the FIRST non AMF Sportster produced since AMF bought the Harley Davidson company in the late 60’s. It also happens to be the 25th anniversary of the Sportster model! While special commemorative 25th anniversary model was built, it simply consisted of special paint, some fancy stickers, and special range of serial numbers and some unique documentation that was given to the owner.  All the bikes being produced that year commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Sportster and had special emblem signifying that on the front fender. See pic# 22.
Bike doesn’t leak oil at all. While the paint is new its not perfect. fly landed on the right side by the emblem, that fly no longer lives. So there is touch up there. Look at pic# 21 and you will see, what believe is, the quality control mark of an inspector on the bottom of the tank. did not paint the bottom of the gas tank in case me or anyone else wanted to match paint to the original.
The “Sportster” emblem on the lower triple tree cover has been damaged so see pics. 
My back gave out just as finished this bike and couldn’t rub out the rear fender. I’ll try to do that if bike sells and my back permits but be prepared to do that yourself.
There is minor pitting on the upper right fork tube (see pic)

Only one of the belly numbers on this bike is in the traditional spot, on the bottom of the case and easy to see. Because of lower engine changes in the crankcase the other "belly" number is inside the primary case!!!! see pic# 18

Other than those items I’ve already mentioned, I'm honestly not aware of anything else that should be mentioned or that needs repair and I’ve been all thru this bike!

You can purchase, up to $1,000 for single money order, from USPS, which will accept. So, if bike sells for 4K you'll need postal money orders,

Even cashiers checks have to clear so bike doesn’t leave premises until it’s paid for and check clears.
Bike should be picked up within 2-3 weeks from auctions end unless you make prior arrangements with me before auction ends.
