50th Anniversary Edition 1999 Honda Goldwing with 3,000 original miles. This motorcycle was a California bike it's whole life and the previous owner rode it sparingly for the first 10+ years and then let it sit when the original battery died which is great because the miles are so low but it's also bad because there's always some type of maintenance needed when a bike sits dormant and this bike is no different.
I installed a new battery and this bike starts up immediately when hot or cold. Before starting it I drained the old gas out of the gas tank and replaced it with ethanol free 91 octane. It idles steady and runs down the road fine but a couple more tanks of good quality gas through the lines should clean up an occasional idle burble that you can hear. Off-idle throttle snap is smooth with the RPM falling back normally to a steady idle. Both normal and full throttle acceleration is smooth and steady throughout all the RPM range so just a couple more tanks of good quality gas should clean up the idle circuit and make it 100%.
2 things that need attention are the tire code is 418 (41st week, 98 year) so these are the original tires and the tread is very good but some new rubber is recommended if you're going to be doing any amount of riding. The foot brake pedal has no feel and no affect on braking. There is no leaking brake fluid anywhere and the brake fluid reservoir is full so I would suspect the lack of use or California heat killed the rear brake master cylinder. The front brake is very effective at stopping this bike and has a solid feel, so much so that I would feel confident riding this bike home or across the State.
This SE model Goldwing was stored under a motorcycle cover so the paint and chrome still looks good but living just off Hwy 101 in California means the air is more salty than inland California. The chrome pieces on this bike are in good shape but some chrome polish will do wonders and really make the chrome bright and shiny again. A nice deep detail wouldn't hurt either, this bike has probably never been detailed. There are a couple scratches and I've photographed them for you-on the front of the left saddlebag and both mirror edges have a scrape from brushing against something or something brushing against the mirror. From all the visual clues and underside edges on this bike I can confidently say it looks like this bike has never been down.
For the 50th Anniversary Edition, Honda went all out on the option list and these are a few of the factory options: Reverse, adjustable air suspension, factory alloy wheels, cruise control, stereo with integrated CB radio and factory cassette tape deck, factory plastic radio cover for rain protection, adjustable rider backrest, adjustable passenger floorboards, adjustable and vented windshield. The previous owner added on to that list by installing an aftermarket seat for more lower back support and an intercom system for rider-passenger communication.
There you have it - a low miles Goldwing that you will enjoy for years. The starting bid is cheap enough to generate everyone's interest so if you're experienced with motorcycles or know these Goldwings you can stop your search right now. This is the one for you. Clean and clear title in hand ready to transfer into your name, for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Watch my auctions for more motorcycles in the future including my 1982 Yama*a XN85 650 turbo bike (the eday police won't let me say brand names within an unrelated motorcycle auction). I'm selling a lifetime of motorcycles and some parts because you can't take it with you.
