Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans 2

Black & Gold

Unrepeatable time-warp find, with just 9,753
miles, completely standard/original. Dry stored since and unused since 1986, hence being sold as a recommissioning/restoration project.

Original Black & Gold Le
Mans 2 project, 100% original and complete. Most of this bike has survived pretty well and better than they
normally do, hence could be recommissioned and used as is. These black and gold Le Mans
2 are a limited edition model unique to the UK having been repainted by Coburn and
Hughes (the importers at the time). This example was purchased by the second owner in 1983 and then parked up and stored in 1986.

We have way too many customer jobs on, therefore this is the one
of several Guzzi’s we will be offering for sale as project bikes.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A NON-RUNNING, SOLD AS SEEN PROJECT FOR RECOMMISSIONING.
NO WARRANTY IMPLIED OR GIVEN.

Model: 850 Le Mans 2 Black & Gold

Year: March 1981 (W reg)

Mechanical

-
Engine: complete, but completely untested and not run, so will need checking
before use and some work should be anticipated. Valve train looks in VGC. N.B.
this is one of the last MK2 Le Mans therefore has the benefit of Nigusil barrels

-
Gearbox & Clutch: present and external inspection ok, engages ok

-
Drive train and final drive: no obvious issues, turns and engages freely

-
Electrics: 100% standard, complete, present, but untested, no battery

-
Original painted steel exhaust system: a little pitted, some careful
restoration should be able to retain this.

-
All controls and carbs etc. present, will need recommissioning

-
Standard 36mm carbs & original grey plastic bell-mouths, all good, but will
need internal work after such a long period of inactivity

-
Original plug-caps (ultra rare)

Chassis

-
Correct & standard late LM2 Black & Gold specification (i.e. air-valves
on each fork leg and Paioli rear shocks)

-
Rear shocks: ok to good, perfectly useable

-
Front forks: operational, working well, little to no pitting, fork seals ok

-
Cables: all ok

-
Front brake: operating and working, a little spongy, has a period “dog-leg”
lever fitted (OEM levers readily available)

-
Rear/link brakes: as per the front brake. Will require refurbishing, but do
work. Correct original Brembo callipers

-
Rubber items: all there, mostly original and in ok condition; some may need replacement
to be safe

-
Tyres: too old safely used and will need replacing, rims hold pressures fine

-
Seat: original and untouched, no splits or damage, retains the OEM seat strap
& fitting (rare)

-
Lights: all present, but untested or checked out

-
Under the seat battery area: in good condition (better than these project bikes
usually are)

Cosmetic

-
Chrome work: generally good

-
Alloy: a little furry, but pretty good, most (if not all) will clean-up

-
Frame paint: much better than usual on this type of project bike, so ok to good
(original)

-
Wheels: original and untouched, so ok, but 1980 finish (some fading)

-
Paintwork: original black and gold paint, unrestored, no damage, but again, 1980,
so a little faded

-
Side panels – not cracked

-
Fuel tank: original, no obvious internal corrosion issues, no dents.

-
Mudguards: front & rear in good condition

Other

-
V5/c present and all matches DVLA records

-
VE numbers correctly match a last series Mark 2 850 Le Mans

-
One owner since December 1983

-
Just 9,753 genuine miles from new

-
Has the 1986 tax disc still fitted !

-
Looking at the condition of the cycle parts, we are pretty certain that the
bike has been well stored and regularly moved round over the years it has not
been on the road

-
Original UK bike from by Coburn & Hughes

-
OEM spare keys present - Original toolkit (unused)- Original tool tray & seat prop

-
Comes with genuine Moto Guzzi workshop manual

Summary

This
has to be the only Black & Gold Le Mans 2 out there like this, literally a
unique opportunity and a relatively easy project. Could be simply recommissioned
and refurbished to be used as is as an amazing unrestored original example, or could
form the basis for a complete restoration.
